Recipe: Left Over Mac ‘n Cheese

February 21, 2012 by Angie Sommer 5 Comments

…and I don’t mean the good home-made kind. Hear me out.

So I had boxed macaroni and cheese last night. Stop judging me. I realize this is a food blog, but it’s my food blog so keep quiet. Also, it’s actually a restaurant review blog; it’s ten kinds of pathetic up here in my own kitchen. As you probably know. Moving on.

Trader Joe’s brand boxed mac ‘n cheese with: peas, beans, avocado, parmesan cheese.

I put peas in my mac and cheese. See? Health food. Today I have left over macaroni and cheese and peas. And no microwave*. What’s a gal to do? Make a numbered list, of course:…

Recipe: Chocolate Cream Pie

December 30, 2011 by Angie Sommer 5 Comments

Yes, it’s true. I made a pie. It was this one, here:

Chocolate Cream Pie a la Angie

I made it for Christmas, for my family. Like a normal person might do. I even created it under the loving tutelage of my mother, who refuses to do such things anymore but has no problem telling me how to do them.

And my family complimented the pie. “Wow, this is a good pie, Angie” “You made this, Angie?”

“Yeah, I made it. I’m good at cooking.”…

Changes

November 19, 2011 by Angie Sommer Leave a Comment

Hi Blog. How are you? Have you been well? Good. … Oh, sorry, I’ve been, um, really busy at work and stuff. And there’s been some personal crap going on, so, sorry I haven’t been hanging out lately. … Well, I guess I don’t really want to talk about it. But thanks for being here for me. … Yeah, I agree. Let’s get back to it.

After a bout of radio silence (read: neglect), I’m back. And I’d like to start with some changes. Personal shit aside, this blog will be experiencing the following:

  1. I am not doing ratings any more for restaurant reviews. All I do is get crap about it, I don’t think it’s super helpful, and it makes my RSS look like poo. Done.
  2. I may post more about random crap and less about straight restaurant reviews. You know you want to read my inane rantings.
  3. A new theme? A certain friend has promised to show me how to upgrade my blog and make it look more awesome. I will hold him to this. And probably will buy him a cookie in return.
  4. I may cuss more, sorry kids. I’ve tried to keep everything pretty G rated thus far, but I think it’s time to bring in some tastefully hilarious cursing.
  5. Numbered lists will continue to be prominently featured, do not fear.

Additionally, a fine piece of electronics has recently come into my life: the mighty Canon S100. With this, I no longer have to dread toting around my beloved yet wholly cumbersome XSi and can conveniently store $500 worth of image-capturing goodness into the bottom of my shoulder bag. A call to all: please help me not leave my bag at restaurants and bars. I will be very upset if I lose this camera.

Ok, so that’s it. Back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Events: SF Street Food Festival 2011

September 5, 2011 by Angie Sommer 1 Comment

After attending the preview dinner for this event, K and I actually left our house on the weekend (gasp!) and went to the full festival. Here were our thoughts:

SF Street Food Festival 2011

Pros:

  • Lots of vendors means lots and lots of food.
  • Helpful, well organized, uniform signage throughout the festival and at each booth helped to communicate information and make sure it was obvious what was offered at each booth.
  • Varied vendors made for a wide range of food offerings.
  • Extremely well organized arrangement, complete with information booths at appropriate intervals.
  • An entire event where food is the main deal instead of the sideshow. Brilliant idea.

SF Street Food Festival 2011. Good lord there were a lot of people.

Hello Mrs. Knott’s Class!

May 5, 2011 by Angie Sommer 16 Comments

No, that’s not the name of a restaurant (though maybe it should be); I’m speaking at my cousin’s 4th grade class today about blogging! First I’ll be doing a short talk about being an engineer (career day, woot!) but then I’ll be hanging out with Mrs. Knott proper and discussing my love of blogging with her awesome kiddos.

A short list of why I love blogging:

  1. It’s an informal way to practice writing, which is important in all walks of life (even as an engineer!).
  2. It’s fun to write about something you love! (I <3 food)
  3. It connects you to other people who love the same thing. If your blog gathers a following, the folks reading are probably a lot like you which is awesome — instant friends!
  4. It’s a great hobby. What else are you going to do with your spare time? May as well use your brain a bit and write!

I’m looking forward to meeting everyone; wish me luck and thanks for having me, Mrs. Knott!! 🙂

P.S.: Mrs. Knott’s class collects box tops for education and hopes to win a quarterly competition within the school for collecting the most! If you see a box top, please save it and send it to me! Email me for more info: brocandchoc@gmail.com.

Collect your box tops for Mrs. Knott’s class!
